Everyday Stationery:
Art Direction

I have a deep well of experience in the stationery space, most notably with the iconic and beloved Papyrus brand.

My background is expansive and includes creative and art direction, materials innovation, editorial, new product development, and artist relationships. In addition, I led creative, trend strategy and collection development for brand partnerships and seasonal pitches for key accounts.

Some of my favorite projects I developed and executed for the brand are highlighted below.

Design development begins with a business plan addressing core needs for the assortment and ends with beautiful finished product. Broadly, the art director’s role includes reviewing line balance, brainstorming and research, pitching concepts and collaborating with artists and in-house creative partners to execute. ADs are a key conduit between leadership, product management/development and artists, illustrators, graphic designers, production artists and editorial.

The everyday assortment focuses on cards but also includes stationery, gift packaging, office and party goods. Card designs range from the large key captions such as birthday, to smaller niche captions such as get well and sympathy.

A note from Lisa…

“Kari brings exceptional creative vision to every project, is deeply inspired by trends, and has a strong understanding of the Papyrus consumer. Her concepts were consistently fresh, innovative, and commercially successful. She also played a key role in developing exclusive programs for Target, using her sharp eye for color and merchandising to create cohesive collections that looked stunning on store shelves.”
